The Local Government Act 1995

The Shire of Northam Proposed Local Government Laws

At the 25 January 2017 Ordinary Council meeting, the Shire of Northam made a decision to review the following local laws relating to:

Standing Orders

The purpose of this local law is to provide rules and guidelines relating to the

conduct of meetings of the Council and its committees, and to meetings of electors.

The effect of this local law is to provide better decision-making by the Council and

Committees through the orderly conduct of meetings dealing with Council business;

better understanding of the process of conducting meetings; and the more efficient

and effective use of time at meetings.

 

Dogs

The purpose of this local law is to addresses the control; registration; ownership and

keeping of dogs;

The effect of this local law is to enforce the obligations and rights of dog owners and

others by providing rules and guidelines relating to the keeping and management of

dogs.

 

Cemeteries

The purpose of this local law is to provide for the orderly management of those Cemeteries in accordance with established plans and to create offences for inappropriate behaviour within cemetery grounds.

The effect of this local law is to bind all persons in the administration of the cemeteries, burying deceased, or otherwise making use of the cemeteries, are to comply with the provisions of this Local Law.

 

A copy of the proposed changes to the local laws may be dowloaded here, or obtained from the Shire Office at 395 Fitzgerald Street Northam between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday to Friday, and at any public library within the Shire of Northam during normal opening hours.
