Community Services
The Shire's Community Services Officer (CSO) is the link between Council and the Shire of Northam's Community. In addition to assisting in the development of the local and regional economy, the CSO endeavours to build a sense of community and improve the community spirit.
The Community Services Officer, in conjunction with the Events Coordinator, is responsible for the coordination of Council events, including the ever popular Summer Siesta Concert Series, Australia Day Breakfast, Avon River Festival, Flying 50 (historical car racing), Northam Motorcycle Festival, Wild Oats Festival and Wundowie Iron Festival.
The CSO’s role also includes coordinating one-off events, such as “WA on Show” a huge exhibition, held at the Perth Convention Centre in 2004. The display proved to be a great showcase for the Shire with an estimated 30,000 people visiting our stand.
In addition, the CSO applies for sponsorship and grants to fund Council projects and may assist community groups and organisations with funding applications.
The Community Services Officer also undertakes many of the Council’s marketing requirements and maintains contact with the residents and ratepayers of Northam. The “Shire of Northam News”, is coordinated by the CSO.
The CSO is also the current Visitor Centre Manager and is responsible for the day to day operations of the Visitor Centre and Staff.
