Rubbish Bins

Rubbish Bins

Within the precinct of the town of Northam it is the responsibility of owners of residential premises to provide either a 120 litre or 240 litre mobile rubbish bin. These are collected weekly by the Shire of Northam contractor - Avon Waste. Council does not provide Northam town residents rubbish bins. They can be bought new or second hand from either Wesfarmers, Avon Waste or the Wool Store.

Council provides a 240 litre mobile bin service to all residents of townsites and areas designated as 'Special Rural Zones'.  A service will be provided to other residents in rural areas provided they are on a route where it is economically viable to provide this service.  If your property is designated as a 'Special Rural Zone' or you live in a rural area of the Shire and you need to obtain a bin you can do so by contacting the Shire of Northam Administration Office on 9622 6100.

For Northam town residents bins need to be placed at the street kerbside outside the residence for collection which takes place each Thursday on the Southern and Eastern side of Fitzgerald St and Peel Terrace and each Tuesday on the Western and Northern river side of Fitzgerald and Peel Terrace.

For rural areas throughout the Shire rubbish services take place on Friday each week.

To find out what day your bins are collected please contact Shire of Northam Administration staff on 9622 6100.

Recycling bins are provided at the Old Quarry Road Waste Disposal site, Minson Avenue and Bernard Park in Northam, Hooper Park at Bakers Hill, opposite the Clackline Store at Clackline, the Grass Valley Hall in Grass Valley and at the Wundowie Hall in Wundowie. These bins are for the deposit of aluminium cans, steel cans, newspaper and glass.

In addition, bins are located at the Inkpen Refuse site for the recycling of aluminium cans, paper, glass, steel, oil and car bodies.

Council is not permitted to bury tyres at the Inkpen Waste Disposal facility and arrangements have been made for a tyre company to collect all tyres from this landfill site and dispose of them at an approved site.  Charges are levied per tyre to cover the cost of the pick up and disposal of vehicle tyres.  The Old Quarry Road facility is licensed to handle the disposal of vehicle tyres however charges are levied per tyre to cover the cost of this disposal.

Owners of commercial premises have the option of either taking rubbish to the Old Quarry Road Waste Disposal Site personally or by private contractor.

The various fees for depositing commercial rubbish at both the Inkpen Road or Old Quarry Road sites are as determined by Council each year.
