Part of the ‘turning the Town around’ strategy is incorporated in the Stage 3 Project – the redevelopment of Minson Avenue. The avenue borders the rear of main street businesses which have been largely neglected, and runs parallel to the Avon River. The project, similar to the proportions of the recent main street redevelopment, includes major landscaping of the area with installation of park benches to beautify the streetscape, and also a lighting plan (in line with community safety initiatives) employing energy efficient lighting methods. A popular series of free outdoor concerts are held in summertime at Bernard Park which adjoins Minson Avenue and the river, and it is envisaged that a sound shell and new playground are constructed here for this purpose and further community events and festivals.
