Fire Response Vehicle Identifier Stickers

To assist authorities to identify vehicles which can assist DFES in bushfire response, DFES and the Shire encourages owners of such vehicles or machinery to apply for a Fire Response Vehicle Identifier windscreen sticker. The stickers are designed to enable passage of approved vehicles through the vehicle control points (road blocks) where approved by the Incident Controller. Appliances or machinery without a Vehicle Identifier sticker may be delayed or prevented from assisting in the response.

Stickers are issued under a number of conditions including:

  • the Fire Response Vehicle Identifier is for the purpose of fire response;
  • when the vehicle is no longer used as a fire response vehicle (e.g. when sold) the identifier will be removed;
  • compliance with the Road Traffic Act 1974;
  • the identifier can be revoked by an Incident Controller or authorised person at any time;
  • appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and Clothing will be worn at all times;
  • the driver will ensure that the vehicle’s presence at an incident is recorded on  both arrival and departure;

Multiple stickers may be issued to persons with multiple suitable vehicles/equipment – one application form per vehicle is required.

The Shire will utilise SMS to communicate with Vehicle Identifier holders (i.e. upon expiry, or any changes to the scheme), therefore a mobile phone number (or numbers) will be required as part of the application. Stickers will be mailed to the applicant following vetting of the application by the Shire.

RESTRICTED BURNING PERIOD

Please be advised that the Shire of Northam has now entered the RESTRICTED period. From this point on, anyone wishing to conduct a hazard reduction burn will require a permit. A link to apply for permits has been included below.

CHANGE OF COUNCIL MEETING LOCATION

The Shire of Northam at its Ordinary Council Meeting held on 15 August 2018 resolved to change the meeting location of the Council Forum and Ordinary Council meeting scheduled on 14 and 21 November 2018. These meetings will now be held at the Quellington Hall and the Shire of Northam hereby gives public notice of the change of place for the meetings as listed above in accordance with Regulation 12 (2) of the Local Government (Administration) Regulations 1996.

ROAD CLOSURE - ASHMAN ROAD BAKERS HILL

** UPDATE 3/10/2018**

Please be advised that Ashman Road, Bakers Hill has been re-opened. 

Crews have completed some remedial works and opened the affected section however further works have been programmed once more favourable weather conditions permit. 

Please proceed with caution and observe traffic management in the area.

HARVEST MASS MANAGEMENT SCHEME (HMMS) – NEW ARRANGEMENTS FOR 2018-2019 HARVEST

Changes to the HMMS will continue to allow for “first and last” mile access on roads between the paddock and the nearest road approved for RAV network access. The HMMS operates from Monday, 1 October 2018 to Thursday, 28 February next year.

The new arrangements are that prior to harvest a farmer or transport operator must submit to Main Roads WA a HMMS Road List form identifying the intended RAV combination and a list of roads being used from the paddock to the approved RAV network.

Main Roads WA will conduct a desktop assessment of the HMMS Road List and the route will be endorsed with operating conditions if considered safe.

The road list must be endorsed by Main Roads WA before commencing HMMS operations for the 2018-2019 harvest and the road list must be carried in the vehicle and produced on request to Main Roads WA, WA Police or the grain handler. The endorsed list may be shared by other transport operators.

BAKERS HILL ROADWORKS

Main Roads Improvements – Great Eastern Highway, Bakers Hill

An asphalt seal will be placed in Bakers Hill between Monday 10 and Wednesday 19 September 2018. This is dependent on the weather. Line marking will be undertaken a few weeks after as the asphalt needs time to settle. We are anticipating all works to be completed by the end of September 2018.
