Pop Up Shop Opportunity

Posted on: Friday, 16 March 2018 at 9:58:02 AM

The Shire of Northam is seeking expressions of interest from new businesses who may be interested in establishing themselves in the Northam Central Business District.

This is part of a current initiative to promote the Northam CBD and provide additional activation to the area, particularly on weekends.

Northam is currently going through a significant development phase with a new shopping centre, proposed refurbishment of the existing shopping centre, development of DOME Café and creation of a multimillion dollar Aboriginal & Environment Interpretive Centre, leading the way in what is excess of $200m currently invested into Northam. The Shire of Northam Pop up Shop is within easy walking distance from each of these new developments.

In order to attract new business to Northam, the Shire is offering a main-street shop front for an agreed ‘rent free’ period. Applicants will need to comply with a number of conditions such as not directly competing with an existing established business and holding an intention to establish permanently.

Council is welcoming applications from businesses to open shop and are encouraging businesses to contact them with their proposals. The initiative provides new businesses with the opportunity to test their market concept over an agreed period of time, generally between 0 – 3 months.
Interested parties are encouraged to contact the Shire’s Manager Planning Services, Mr Kobus Nieuwoudt on (08) 9622 6100 to discuss eligibility for the Shire’s Pop up Shop.
