Children and families of Northam will soon have access to a $1.5m activity space located at Jubilee Oval on the corner of Chidlow St and Peel Terrace, thanks to a $776,000 grant from Lotterywest.

As part of the Shire’s ongoing commitment to delivering facilities and activities for families and youth, the new space will include flying foxes, skate bowls, table tennis, free WiFi, nature play areas, plenty of seating and other recreational activities for the young and young at heart.

“This is another important and exciting development for Northam, in addition to the $8m aquatic facility which will be going out for tender to commence construction in the coming weeks – where our kids might have complained about nothing to do in the past, it will certainly not be the case in 12 months’ time” Chief Executive Officer, Jason Whiteaker said.

All planning for the youth precinct project has been completed and tenders will be out for the construction work in May 2018, with work aimed to commence around July 2018 and be completed for the next summer.

Mr Whiteaker said this development is one of many exciting development occurring in Northam
‘Northam is an exciting community to be involved in with some great projects either underway of about to commence, projects such as the aquatic facility development and youth space, along with the Bilya Koort Boodja Centre due to open in July 2018, Council is certainly doing its part in developing the Shire of Northam into a strong desirable community. Couple this with the private investment occurring and we are starting to develop a really strong product in Shire of Northam “

Detailed plans of both the youth space and aquatic facility can be found on the Shire of Northam website.
