Posted on: Thursday, 4 October 2018 at 8:50:05 AM

The areas of Southern Brook / Seabrook and Carlin Valley, Koojedda Hills, Gleeson Hill Estate, Mauravillo will see in excess of $2,000,000 of maintenance work occur in the coming months as a result of recent approvals through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements Western Australia (WANDRRA).

The works concentrated in the Southern Brook / Seabrook Area are the result of a declared event which occurred on 29th January to 1st February 2017.

The works being undertaken in the Bakers Hill / Wundowie areas of Carlin Valley, Koojedda Hills, Gleeson Hill Estate & Mauravillo are the result of the more recent storm events of 25th and 26th February 2018.

Shire of Northam Chief Executive Officer Mr Jason Whiteaker said the funding was welcomed and would finally see Council being able to undertake more extensive remediation works in the impacted areas.

Council has been receiving a lot of feedback from the parts of the community for not undertaking repair works in certain areas. We have been explaining that it has simply not been possible to do the extent of work we would like as the WANDRA claims were not yet approved”.

Now the funds have been approved, we will be awarding tenders and seeing works commence soon. This is a positive outcome for all involved.” Mr Whiteaker said.

It is expected that Southern Brook / Seabrook will be the first area to see works commence with tenders to be awarded in October, whilst the Wundowie / Bakers Hill work is set to be tendered and awarded prior to the end of the calendar year.

More detailed information can be provided by contacting Nadeem Gul, Projects Development Manager ((08) 9621 2263). Tenders awarded details will be placed on the Shire of Northam Website – www.northam.wa.gov.au.
