Local Governments Awarded for Contribution to Road Safety

Three Local Governments have been recognised for their outstanding achievements in road safety.
 
The City of Stirling, Shire of Northam and Shire of Northampton were presented with a Local Government Road Safety Award today during the 2018 WA Transport and Roads Forum held at the Crown Perth.
 
The Awards are a joint initiative between the WA Local Government Association’s (WALGA) RoadWise and the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasian - WA Inc.
 
WALGA President, Cr Lynne Craigie congratulates the Award recipients and commends their ability and effort to improve road safety in the community.
 
“Local Governments have a key role in applying the safe system approach to ensure the Towards Zero strategy is being effectively implemented,” she said.
 
“Road safety is important to the community and Local Governments have a key role in applying the safe system.
 
“Through safe system infrastructure improvements, supporting projects and partnerships with RoadWise Committees, the City of Stirling, and Shires of Northam and Northampton have shown their continued commitment to the strategy and zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads.”
 
The Award recipients are:

  • The Safe System Approach – Road Infrastructure Improvement Award, presented to the City of Stirling for their Scarborough-Doubleview Local Area Traffic Management Precinct Scheme project.
  • The Safe System Approach – Complementary Initiatives Award, presented to the Shire of Northam for their 5 Week Easter Road Safety Campaign.
  • The Safe System Approach – Local Road Safety Partnerships Award, presented to the Shire of Northampton for their Kalbarri RoadWise Committee One Year Action Plan 2017-2018.
