Public Library Survey
Posted 18 March 2022 Public Library Survey

Your local public library needs you! Community members are urged to have their say on the future of public libraries in Western Australia. A draft strategy is currently available for public comment at slwa.wa.gov.au until April 8, 2022. The strategy has been developed as a joint project between State and Local Governments and centres on three themes: - Strengthening Communities - What is needed to enable you to have a greater say in the services that public libraries deliver? - Digital Inclusion - What is needed to make public libraries the first place you think of for access to technology and online resources like electronic books, audiobooks and streaming films? How can public libraries help you to access Government services online? - How we value our public libraries - How can Government and communities accurately assess the impact public library services have on us all? There are 232 local public libraries throughout WA. Last year there were more than 7 million in-person visits and 3 million online visits to libraries. Western Australians borrowed more than 16 million books, electronic books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs and other items to keep themselves educated, informed and entertained. We would love as many community members as possible to complete the survey- both library users and non-library users. The more responses the survey gets, the more understanding we have about what people think libraries should be & do. This is an easy way to add ideas to the future of our libraries. Our friendly library staff will be happy to help you access the survey using our computers, or you can access the survey directly by visiting https://slwa.wa.gov.au/about/partnerships/local-government-public-libraries/public-library-strategy-survey

Pulse Oximeters Distribution to Country WA
Posted 01 March 2022 Pulse Oximeters Distribution to Country WA

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve WA Health has established a Home Monitoring Program. This program aims to assess the status of people who require support when COVID-19 positive, but do not require hospitalisation.  This can be done with the help of a pulse oximeter; a handheld, non-invasive, peg-like device that clips onto a person’s finger to measure oxygen saturation and heart rate.

Abandoned Trolleys
Posted 18 February 2022 Abandoned Trolleys

Abandoned shopping trolleys are becoming a regular sight around town, and our Shire Rangers are working hard to tackle this and help the trolleys find their way back to where they belong. The Shire of Northam encourages residents to report all trolley sightings direct to their respective collection service. Woolworths or IGA (Wundowie) Residents are encouraged to report the sighting direct to Trolley Tracker. Trolley Tracker can be contacted by phone on 1800 641 497 (7 days, 8am-6pm AEST), via the ‘Report a Trolley’ page on their website or through the Trolley Tracker App, available from Google Play and the App Store. Each report lodged in Western Australia via Trolley Tracker goes into a prize draw to win $1,000 each month. Coles, Kmart, or Bunnings Residents are encouraged to report the sighting direct to Coles. The Coles abandoned trolley department can be contacted by phone on 1800 TROLLEY (1800 876 553), via the ‘Abandoned Trolley’ page on their website or through the Coles App, available from Google Play and the App Store. To proactively assist in addressing this ongoing issue, the Shire of Northam Rangers Services routinely report abandoned trolleys and liaise with outlets as required.
