The Northam Aquatic Facility is set to officially open on Saturday, 25th January 2020 at 1.00pm. The Hon. Christian Porter MP will officially open the Facility which will be open for swimming immediately following the official opening.

Shire of Northam President, Cr C R Antonio said “It is with great pride that the official opening date of the new Northam Aquatic Facility has now been confirmed. Thanks to all the people and organisations in making this fantastic facility become a reality.  This state-of-the-art facility will not only be available to the Shire of Northam residents, but will also be an attraction for all types of visitors, now, and for many years to come.

As this exciting new chapter in the Shire of Northam begins, take the time to look back and remember all of the great times that you and your family had at the old pool, and recognise the pioneers of our first 50 metre pool”.

Federal Member for Pearce Christian Porter applauded the Shire and the Northam community for their hard work on the new Northam Pool and Aquatic Facility.

“After years of planning and effort, I’m pleased to see construction complete and the official opening date set for the new Northam Pool and Aquatic Facility,” Mr Porter said.

“Along with the Northam Shire and wider community, we fought to see this project become a reality and thanks to $3.2 million in funding from the Federal Liberal Government it is almost open!

“As a dad I know how important it is that our kids have somewhere to learn to swim – that’s why this new state-of-the-art facility is such a huge win for Northam and the surrounding community.”

The project has been under construction over the past 12 months by Cooper and Oxley who were awarded the contract to build the new facility worth $10 million. This followed an extensive planning process with the design being undertaken by Donovan Payne Architects. The facility includes an eight lane 50 metre outdoor heated swimming pool, four water slides, a heated learn to swim area, BBQ facilities, as well as a heated leisure / ‘tots’ pool and shaded water play area.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Clinton Kleynhans said “we have been really excited about this project and are pleased to officially announce the opening. The facility will be a great community asset which we are positive will be supported. The project has ran smoothly and we would like to thank all involved who attributed to this including the builders Cooper and Oxley and architects Donovan Payne Architects”.

Following the formalities of the official opening, the facility will be opened to the general public for use. It is anticipated there will be a large number of people coming along on the day so staff will ensure measures are in place that will allow all patrons the opportunity to enjoy the new facility.
