There’s plenty of adventure waiting in the Shire of Northam. Just over an hour from Perth, the Avon Valley offers an exciting mix of outdoor thrills, unique experiences and relaxed country charm.

Start your day drifting above the countryside with a sunrise hot air balloon flight. Both Windward Ballooning and Liberty Balloon Flights operate from Northam, offering unforgettable views over rolling farmland, the Avon River and the town below. It’s a peaceful and magical way to see the region from a whole new perspective.

For something a little more hands-on experience and high in octane, head to Rally School Australia in nearby Bakers Hill, where you can test your driving skills on WA’s famous “ball bearing” gravel tracks. Motorsport fan or not, it’s definitely an adrenaline-filled experience like no other.

Prefer to keep your feet on the ground, but not really? Green Gables Stables has been sharing the joy of horse riding for over 35 years, offering scenic rides through beautiful countryside for riders of all ages and abilities.

Outdoor lovers can also explore the historic KEP Track, a 76km trail running from Mundaring to Northam along old rail formations and pipeline service roads, perfect for walking, cycling and discovering the Avon Valley at your own pace.

Follow the Avon River on the 18km Dorntj Koorliny (Walk Together) Track. There are many bridges throughout the trail, and you might see some white swans

Burlong Pool - Northam

KEP Track

The Kalgoorlie Exploratory Pipeline (KEP) Track runs from Mundaring to Northam, a 76km trail that follows the various rail formations and pipeline service roads.
