Feedback sought for Differential Rate (Closed)


The Shire of Northam, in consultation with the Northam Chamber of Commerce, is undertaking a review of the differential rate structure and is requesting feedback from:

  • Businesses within the Northam town site and Avon Industrial Park; and
  • Land owners where the predominant land use is commercial, industrial or community purposes within the Northam town site and the Avon Industrial Park.

Background:

The Shire of Northam has a differential rate on properties where the predominant land use is commercial, industrial or community purposes within the Northam Town site and the Avon Industrial Park. This levy is collected to enable the Northam Chamber of Commerce and Industry to provide independent support, promotion, and advocacy for local businesses.

The differential rate on business premises is 10.8322, compared to the residential rate of 10.02 (a difference of 0.8122c in the gross rental value). In 2020/21 the contribution allocated to the Northam Chamber was $127,000.
