Calling all bird watchers!!! Join thousands of people across Australia and take part in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count between the 21st and 27th October. Get to know your local birds, record what you see and help Birdlife Australia collect data across the country to provide a picture of what bird populations and species are doing. Anyone can join and there are Apps and booklets to help you identify what we have locally.

This is the 5th year that Birdlife Australia has run the Aussie Backyard Bird Count and the program is gaining momentum becoming one of the largest citizen science projects run in Australia. Anyone can join and it gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors for a 20 minute period to observe what birds exist in your immediate surroundings. You can partake anywhere there are birds including:

  • Your backyard
  • A local park or nature reserve
  • Playground area at school
  • A local wetland
  • A paddock area

The national total will be updated in real time, and the App allows you to see which species are being counted in your local area. Start spreading the word with #AussieBirdCount.
