The Shire of Northam is currently in a PROHIBITED BURNING PERIOD as of 18th November 2023. All burning is strictly not allowed and all signs of smoke/fire should be reported to 000 immediately. For more information please click HERE.
Due to a recent increase in the number of rooster complaints from Wundowie residents, the Shire of Northam would like to reiterate that the keeping of roosters in townsites is not permitted, as per the Health Amended Local Law 2018. It should be noted that Wundowie is a country townsite and is sensitive to unreasonable noise and the harmful effects it can have on a person's health and wellbeing. Further information on the keeping of poultry can be found on the Shire of Northam website. Physical copies will be made available at the Wundowie Library.

A timely reminder for residents to dispose of lithium batteries correctly after a rubbish truck fire in a neighbouring Shire this morning. Lithium batteries are found within e-waste components such as vapes, phones, laptops, electric toothbrushes, power tools and solar power back-up storage devices. To create a comprehensive plan for managing corellas in the Wheatbelt, NRM need to collect all available information in order to understand how the issue affects your area.
The Royal Life Saving Society WA (RLSSWA) has developed a unique program aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle for children in remote and regional communities. The program encourages aquatic centers to increase participation in swimming and consumption of the recommended daily standard serving of fruit. Take advantage of this FREE program every Tuesday and Thursday from 4pm to 5pm for kids aged 5-17. Enjoy free fruit and a chance to win some exciting prizes.

Council at its Ordinary Council Meeting held on the 15th of November 2023 resolved to advertise for public comment in accordance with the provisions of Local Planning Scheme No. 6, draft amendments to Local Planning Policy No 3 (LPP3): Small Homes, Transportable, Repurposed and Second-Hand Dwellings. The proposed amendments will introduce guidance on small home development within the Shire of Northam.

Property with land of an area less than 10,000m2 (1 hectare) including residential property within townsites, to ensure you are firebreak compliant, you will need to:
Firebreaks Inspections begin 1st November 2023 on all properties in the Shire of Northam. This includes residential properties and rural farming areas.

Each year from 1st November, all landowners in the Shire of Northam are required to have completed works on their property to ensure that both their firebreaks are compliant and the asset protection zone around all assets of value are fuel reduced.
The Shire of Northam is on the lookout for businesses who can provide assistance with firebreak maintenance this season, including slashing, block clearing, grading, and mowing/whipper snipping.
