Change in HIGH FIRE DANGER Notifications

Please be advised that the Shire of Northam will no longer be sending SMS updates regarding High Fire Danger ratings in the Avon District to permit holders during the Restricted Burning Period.
We encourage all permit holders and residents to stay informed by checking daily fire danger ratings for the Avon Fire Weather District by:
- visiting emergency.wa.gov.au
- downloading the Emergency WA app
- tuning in to local radio
The move to discontinue these SMS messages will assist us to ensure that Emergency WA is used as the single source of truth in emergency management. With the removal of the dependence on human resources to broadcast this information and the elimination of duplicated messaging, this allows us to focus efforts and resources on broader community fire preparedness and safety initiatives.
We would like to take this time to remind all permit holders that on days where the Fire Danger Rating is “High” or above”, the permit is no longer valid, and the planned burn must be undertaken at another time.
We appreciate your understanding on this matter. If you have any questions around how the Fire Danger Rating or Burning Permits processes, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
