There is something for everyone this Australia Day in the Shire of Northam as we come together as a community and celebrate the values, beliefs and freedoms we share.

Activities include free family fun at the Northam and Wundowie aquatic centres, community breakfasts, BBQ lunches and evenings filled with live entertainment.

Keep across our Facebook page @shireofnortham for all the latest info and check out a snapshot of what’s on below.

Wundowie

The Wundowie Progress Association invites everyone to celebrate Australia Day on the evening of Thursday 25th of January at the Wundowie Oval from 6.00pm - 9.00pm.  This is a family friendly BYO event, so come along for a great evening and enjoy a free sausage sizzle and live music from the Fenton Duo. The best part about this is it opens up your whole long weekend and means you can unwind and beat the heat on Australia Day with FREE entry to the Wundowie pool, a free BBQ and games for the kids between 12-5pm.

Spencers Brook

The Spencers Brook Progress Association is hosting a free Australia Day Breakfast at the Station Masters House from 7am, so head along and enjoy the community spirit, underneath the shaded trees with the sounds of the Kookaburra's.

Bakers Hill

The Bakers Hill Progress Association invites everyone to their free Australia Day ‘Breakfast with Bubbles’ from 8am at the Bakers Hill Recreation Centre. Enjoy a complimentary drink with your breakfast and good company.

Northam

Citizenship Ceremony and Community Awards

In the town of Northam from 10am at the Northam Recreation Centre we will kick-off the day with the Citizenship Ceremony welcoming the new members of our community and celebrate being a part of a diverse and multicultural nation. Immediately following we will announce the 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Award winners. Make sure you head down to acknowledge the great work our volunteers do in the community and share in a morning tea afterwards, including a range of Aboriginal grazing boards on the patio.

Northam Aquatic Centre & Bernard Park

Enjoy some family fun next door at the Northam Aquatic Facility which will be open from 10am, with free entry, including free slide entry from 12pm-4pm, a free BBQ for all and games and prizes to be won.

Then at 3pm head down to Bernard Park and enjoy an evening of family entertainment and games for the kids, as well as a complimentary ice-cream for everyone. We have inflatable water slides and obstacles course on the park - please note the first hour from 3pm-4pm is reserved for those with sensory issues or a disability. From 4pm-7pm it's access for all. Meanwhile over on the Soundshell there is a full line-up of entertainment. Enjoy some traditional Didgeridoo as well as performances from the Dadajaal dance company and later performances from the "Wheatbelt's got talent" winner Jaime Gartlett and runner up Rylan Reedy. Before Bedrock band play some classic feel good tracks for the whole family to see out the evening.
