Athletics West is pleased to announce the 2023 Country Athletics Championships are set for the Northam Recreation Centre from the 13 to 15 January 2023.
The Championships will see athletes of all ages given a chance to compete with the event expected to attract more than 400 athletes, all vying for top honours and an opportunity to achieve new personal bests.
Athletics West CEO Vince Del Prete said the organisation is “thrilled to be heading out east to Northam in 2023.”
“Events like the Country Championships allow rural towns to deliver a state-level event and help stimulate their local economy. I am confident that Northam will deliver a rewarding experience for all our athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers.” said Athletics West CEO Vince Del Prete.
"The Country Athletics Championships is a great opportunity for our regional athletes to come together and compete. Sport is a tool that builds communities and I am excited to once again celebrate the chance to see WA's best country athletes battle it out."
WA's best country and regional athletes will be able to enjoy all the Shire of Northam has to offer, with visitors from Broome, Geraldton, Esperance, Goldfields, Albany and beyond set to attend.
“We are excited to host the 2023 Country Champs in Northam. This area consistently produces some excellent athletes and we look forward to welcoming competitors and their families to enjoy everything Northam has to offer.” Shire President Councillor Chris Antonio said.
Northam Districts Little Athletics Centre were the first hosts of the Country Championships back in 1972, and will help co-host the 2023 Championships. The Centre’s President Stacy Stanfield said the centre is “excited to host.”
“We look forward to welcoming our fellow Country Clubs from all over Western Australia into the town of Northam. We will have lots of fun and we look forward to a great competition. Bring on 2023 Country Champs,” said Northam DLAC President Stacy Stanfield.
