Elite-level indoor hockey is heading to Northam, Western Australia this October, with a new tournament set to not only bring high-quality sporting excitement to the region but also challenge the sport’s brightest female and male stars from across Australia and further afield.

The inaugural Hockey WA Indoor Hockey Classic will feature four men’s teams and four women’s teams, including some of the world’s top-tier players, who’ll battle for top honours and trophies in a competition that is set to capture significant national and international attention.

The Hockey WA Indoor Hockey Classic – to run from 7-9 October and be staged in a similar vein to Hockey WA’s highly successful outdoor event, the Ric Charlesworth Classic – is proudly supported by SportAus’ Regional Sports Event program as well as the Shire of Northam.

“The upcoming Hockey WA Indoor Hockey Classic is a demonstration of Hockey WA’s commitment to growing the sport and, in particular, our focus on indoor hockey, as well as our commitment to the regional WA,” Hockey WA’s General Manager – Performance and Development, Dean Evans, says

“Not only will the Classic provide players, coaches and officials with wonderful opportunities to showcase their skills in an elite-level competition, the tournament will also form an integral component of the preparation for the 2023 Hockey Australia National Indoor Championships in January in Brisbane, Queensland. The Hockey WA Indoor Hockey Classic will also help develop the next generation of players and coaches with our WA Under 13 and 15 squads playing exhibition matches during the tournament alongside their heroes.

“We are very excited to have this opportunity and looking forward to not only the hockey element but also supporting sport and recreation in the Shire of Northam.”

Shire President Cr Chris Antonio said the following of the announcement.

“We are thrilled to welcome the inaugural Hockey WA Indoor Hockey Classic to Northam this year, which has been made possible by funding from Sport Australia’s Regional Sport Events Fund.

“Northam as a community pride ourselves on our strong sporting culture, and recognise that tournaments such as this bring immeasurable benefits to the region such as greater visitation, which in turn serves to reinvigorate our local economy.”
