As part of the Shire of Northam sport & recreation upgrade and improvements a set of ‘senior full size soccer goals’ have been installed at the Bert Hawke Oval. These improvements are complimented by the Northam Springfield Football Club (soccer) now permanently located at the oval.

Shire of Northam President Cr Chris Antonio said of the new goals

‘’It’s fantastic to have a new home for soccer at Bert Hawke Oval, to have co-located codes at the venue and that we can offer a diverse range of sporting opportunities.’’

Shire Officers collaborated with the Northam Springfield FC to move from Henry Street oval to Bert Hawke pavilion where they could make use of the sports ground now vacated by hockey to their new synthetic turf pitch for their 2022 winter season.

The Shire is invested in seeing sport grow in Northam and arranged a full-size rectangular football pitch line marked for the club whilst purchasing and installing the professional sized goals for $4,750 + GST.

These are the only permanent full size soccer goals available for public and club use in the Shire. These assets provide the local club a real sense of belonging and identity as they continue to grow.

The installation and support from the Shire has generated positive responses from the club and its members as they are already looking at games they can host from their new facilities.

Moving forward the club is now setting its sights on building membership and playing in local grade competitions.
